The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has been urged to make public its 2017 revenue profile, despite claims by its management that the agency surpassed its N250bn revenue target for the year.
It will be recalled that during the agency’s Long and Merit Service Award held in Lagos in 2017, the Managing Director of the NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman, revealed that the agency surpassed its 2017 revenue target of N250bn, even though she was quiet on the exact amount of money generated. She however assured the audience that by the end of the year, the exact revenue figure would have been released. However, by the close of 2017, the revenue figure was not released.
Speaking on the issue, a frontline clearing agent, Kelvin Olisa, charged the NPA MD to practice what she preaches. According to Olisa, “The NPA MD has promised the industry, transparency and should have gone ahead to release the exact figure generated by the agency in the spirit of transparency. But that was never done, and that amounts to double standard.
“She promised to release before the end of December 2017 now. We are in February 2018 nothing from the authority yet.
“That the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) have released their 2017 revenue generation profile, and NPA has not done the same is creating disquiet among stakeholders in the maritime sector.”
He however charged the agency to release the revenue profile if they have nothing to hide.
When contacted, the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications, Abdullahi Goje, said it’s only the finance and admin directorate or audit division of the authority that would give the exact revenue profile of the agency.
