The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said it has earmarked fourteen district hospitals for general rehabilitation and the provision of medical equipment in the 2025 budget.
Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, disclosed this while unveiling the revamped VIP ward, named after Nyesom Wike, at the Maitama District Hospital on Thursday.
She said the initiative aims to tackle critical health infrastructure challenges and reposition medical centers for efficient service delivery.
According to her, the renovation of the VIP ward, which began in Maitama, will be extended to the remaining thirteen hospitals to make them comfortable for both patients and doctors.

The mandate secretary revealed that the Nyesom Wike VIP ward will be free for doctors and nurses within the health system.
Fasawe said, **”The rehabilitation is to make the hospitals comfortable for both patients and doctors.
“Well, in the 2025 budget, we have captured the fourteen hospitals for rehabilitation. After the document is approved, it will provide details of how much is allocated for rehabilitation and the provision of equipment in the hospitals.
“The exercise will cover the upgrading and replacement of equipment in all hospitals and primary healthcare centers in the FCT.”**
When asked about the employment of medical workers, the Acting Director-General of the FCT Hospital Management Board, Dr. Olugbenga Bello, said plans are underway to recruit doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, lab scientists, and other health workers.
He said the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, had also approved the replacement of 315 health workers across all hospitals.
“The Minister of the FCT has approved the replacement of 315 health workers across the hospitals. It is now left for the Civil Service Commission to complete the process, and they are working on it,” Bello said.
