Zulum scolds Borno health agencies over mismanagement of funds

Published by

Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum has scolded health agencies in the state for their unaccountability and lack of transparency in the management of funds.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting on the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) in Maiduguri on Monday, Zulum accused the Borno State Health Contributory Management Agency (BOCHMA) and the Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA) of lacking accountability and transparency in their operations.

Zulum stated that “the era of impunity is over,” Zulum declared. “We will not tolerate the diversion of a kobo for any purpose in the health sector. The people of Borno deserve better.”

The Governor directed the BOCHMA coordinator to work closely with Local Government Area Chairmen to ensure transparency in fund management. He also announced plans to establish a committee to inspect primary healthcare facilities across LGAs, warning facility managers to shape up or ship out.

“We will not tolerate any diversion of primary healthcare funds. We will ensure that every kobo is accounted for and every facility functions optimally.”

Zulum pledged to increase funding for the health sector, improve healthcare infrastructure, and provide training and capacity-building programs for healthcare workers.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Prof. Mohammed Arab, Representative of Health Authority; Alhaji ES BOSPHCDB, Representative of Borno State Primary Healthcare Development Agency; and Dr. Saleh Abba, Representative of Borno State Health Contributory Management Agency (BOSCHMA).
