Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned a newly built School of Nursing, together with Eye and Dental Hospitals, in Monguno Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking during the ceremony on Wednesday, Zulum said the facilities would provide free healthcare services to residents of northern Borno, a region that has suffered years of neglect due to the Boko Haram insurgency.

The governor explained that the School of Nursing was established to produce nurses, midwives and other health professionals who would help restore the state’s healthcare delivery system.
According to him, the hospitals and the nursing school have been equipped with modern facilities to provide effective services.
He added that a maintenance committee would be set up to ensure proper management of the institutions.
“I want to assure you, Insha’Allah, that the Borno State Government, the Federal Government and the North East Development Commission will continue to partner to develop northern Borno and the state in general,” the governor said.
Zulum also said his administration would continue to work with the military and other security agencies to guarantee safety for residents, especially farmers and traders.
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their support to the people of Borno, noting that they had directed the military to intensify operations against insurgents.
He further praised the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Professor BabaMalum Gana, and the Chief Medical Director of the Eye and Dental Hospitals for their contributions to the success of the projects.
In his remarks, Senator Tahir Monguno, who represents Borno North, described the projects as a milestone in addressing the healthcare needs of the zone.
On his part, the Commissioner for Health, Professor Gana, observed that Monguno records high maternal and neonatal deaths. He said the new facilities would reduce such cases and serve as referral centres for the entire northern senatorial district.
