The Zamfara State Ministry of Health has inaugurated an Expanded Technical Working Group (TWG) on the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis, stating that the goal is to ensure that no child is born with HIV.
The inauguration of the technical working group reaffirms the State’s commitment to the global, national, and state agenda of ending HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis by 2030.
The TWG is expected to strengthen coordination, improve service delivery, and expand access to quality care for pregnant and breastfeeding women. It will also ensure early infant diagnosis and integrate PMTCT services into maternal, newborn, and child health programs across the State.

Speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Malam Bashiru Sirajo Gusau, said: “Our goal is clear — no child should be born with HIV, Syphilis, or Hepatitis, and every mother must have access to comprehensive, stigma-free care.”
The initiative aligns with the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets, Nigeria’s National Strategic Framework, and Zamfara State’s health priorities, marking a significant step toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
