Zamfara state government has set to upgrade the College of Animal Science (CAS) Bakura, established by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, to the status of a polytechnic in the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the public relations officer of the Zamfara State Ministry of Agriculture, Bashir Abashiya, the ministry said it has secured approval from His Excellency the Executive Governor, Dauda Lawal, for the accreditation of some courses at the College of Agriculture and Animal Science in Bakura.
“The Ministry of Agriculture has secured approval from the Governor for accreditation of some courses by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE); this is part of the plans for an upgrade of the college from monotechnic to polytechnic and other positive interventions”.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Agriculture, Alh Ya’u Haruna Gamji, during a stakeholder meeting with the management of the college at the conference hall of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The commissioner explained that the state government is making necessary arrangements to renovate the physical structures of the college and provide more security for a conducive atmosphere of teaching and learning.
“We are very much appreciated, and we thanked His Excellency for granting the approval to upgrade the college”.
Earlier on, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Alh Garba Gayari, who was a founding lecturer at the college, highlighted that the college has suffered years of neglect by past administrations despite the fact that it was established by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
Gayari thanked State Governor Dauda Lawal for the timely intervention at the college.
In his remarks, the provost of the college, Habibu Mainasara, who led his management team during the stakeholders meeting, appreciated the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Government for coming to the aid of the college.
“I solicit cooperation from the management staff and students of the college for a successful exercise during the visit by the officials from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
