Zamfara govt begins distribution of free insecticide nets to pregnant women

The Zamfara state government has commenced the distribution of insecticide mosquito nets free to pregnant women across 147 wards in the state.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aisha Anka, made this known during the flag off ceremony of free insecticide mosquito nets held at Karima Women and Children (WC)Hospital in Tudun Wada Gusau,the state capital.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the information officer, Zamfara state ministry of health, Suleiman Isah said the commissioner disclosed that the distribution exercise will take place at tertiary, secondary, and primary healthcare facilities across 147 wards in the state.

“The nets will be giving to all pregnant women on their first antenatal visit and children who have completed their immunization schedules (PENTA3),” the commissioner said.

The Commissioner warned all staff saddle with distribution process to properly follow the guidelines and ensure that only the target beneficiaries and benefit from the gesture.

She further encouraged wards and facilities’ development committees to support this intervention in order to ensure compliance throughout the distribution exercise.

Also,the Director Public Health Dr Yusuf Abubakar Haske said the intervention will improve the state routine immunisation coverage as well as state ANC attendance.

“We will use ANC and immunisation service data to guide the distribution and implementation at all levels during the exercise.

“If the intervention is fully implemented and sustained it will reduce state maternal and child mortality rate,” he said.
