The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Bello, has pledged to support the enhancement of girl child education in the Emirate.

Girl child education is a project of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), supported by the World Bank in collaboration with the Zamfara State government.

The Emir gave the assurance while receiving AGILE consultant in the state, Professor Abubakar Aliyu Liman, at his palace in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

Professor Abubakar Aliyu Liman was represented by the Chief Executive Officer of Media and Publicity Consult (MPC), Malam Nasiru Usman Biyabiki, who led the advocacy team to Gusau Emirate as part of an integrated marketing communications campaign on social norms that prevent girls from enrolling in school or cause them to drop out.

According to him, the AGILE project is a World Bank intervention aimed at reducing the number of adolescent out-of-school girls.

“Enumerators were engaged across the seven educational zones in the state to come out with data on how to enhance the enrolment drive for out-of-school adolescent girls.”

Responding, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, described the AGILE project as a good development for the future of female education in the state.

“The importance of educating female children can never be overemphasised, my Emirate will continue to support girls child education.” The Emir pledged his support.
