A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Senator Kabiru Marafa, who at the weekend accused the APC national leadership of conducting an illegal Ward Congress in the North-West state has again asked the Yobe State governor and Chairman of the interim Caretaker team, Mai Mala Buni, to respond to the allegations he raised.
Addressing newsmen on Sunday in Abuja, Senator Marafa dismissed the ward congress as an ambush as he noted that stakeholders were not duly informed in clear breach of the Electoral Act which made it mandatory for political parties to give the Independent National Electoral Commission and party Stakeholders 21 days notice.
Reacting to Mohammed Mamman Director General, Press and Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor who described him as a bad loser and sinking politician, Marafa who spoke through his faction spokesman, Honourable Bello Bakyasuwa Maradun said it was unfortunate that the APC leadership was avoiding the issues he raised.
He said: “In his courageous and issues-driven politics, Senator Kabiru Marafa raised pertinent points that undermined the legality of the APC National leadership under Mai-Mala Buni while equally providing the rationale for his APC-led faction to conduct a parallel congress.
“It is interesting that the issues raised by Senator Marafa did not sit well with the so-called caretaker leadership of APC under Mai-Mala Buni through a statement attributed to Mamman Mohammed who called himself DG Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai-Mala Buni.
“We want to thank the DG for acknowledging the fact that Sen Marafa is a responsible politician.
“But instead of addressing the issues raised by Senator Marafa against his boss, Mr Mamman went bluffing and describing the actions of the highly respected Senator as “political suicide” and advising on the obvious stance of going to court which Senator Marafa unequivocally stated in all his statements.
“In responding to his statement, we consider it imperative for Mai-Mala and his co-travellers on the road to perdition to what the famous boxing champion Muhammad Ali says “Bragging is when a man says what he can’t do. I do what I say.”
This is because Nigeria and the world have witnessed the courageous and responsible way Senator Marafa conducted his affairs as a Senator of the Federal of Nigeria and his political engagements in general.
“Thanks to the interventions of Senator Marafa through a legal process that went to the Supreme Court from the case of irregular primaries in 2019, Nigeria’s political space was awakened from the political impunity that happens in party primaries with the promise of changing ways of doing things including the much-celebrated direct election.
“We cannot allow ourselves to be distracted by the outburst of Mr Mai-Mala’s spokesman and lose sight of the real issues raised by Distinguished Senator Marafa.
“We await your response on the issues raised so that we can move to the next level, not unwarranted personal attacks please.”
