Youth, students must take advantage of technology for awareness drive – ASONIS president

The president of the Association of Southern Nigerian Students (ASONIS) Comrade Taiwo Olayinka Temitope has appealed to students and youths population to take advantage of the technology tools and the social media to raise awareness and advocacy over challenges facing them.

The students leader spoke during his inauguration and other executives of ASONIS, comprising South West, South South and the South East with the theme, ‘ Nigeria on the Brink: The Roles of Youths and Students in the Effort to Prevent National Destabilization and Build a United, Peaceful, and Equitable Nation’

He explained that the roles of youths to nation building cannot be over emphasized, calling on government and other stakeholders to address the challenges and problems confronting students and youths in the country.

Taiwo said, ” As I stand before you, I am filled with a profound sense of responsibility and hope. We are at a critical juncture in our nation’s history, where the choices we make today will determine the trajectory of our tomorrow. The fabric of our society is being tested, and it is up to us—the youth—to weave it back together with threads of unity, peace, and equity.

” In recent years, we have witnessed a rise in social unrest, economic inequality, and a growing sense of disillusionment among our people; these issues threaten not only our present but also our future.

” It is essential for us, as the leaders of tomorrow, to recognize that our voices matter and our actions can create ripples of change.

” We have a unique advantage: our energy, our creativity, and our ability to mobilize. The power of social media and technology has placed tools of advocacy at our fingertips. We must harness these tools to raise awareness, educate our peers, and engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges we face.

” We must also be vigilant in promoting dialogue over discord, understanding over intolerance, and actions that foster inclusivity rather than division.

” Let us remember that being a student is not just about academics; it is about being an active participant in our society.

“We must engage with local communities, support grassroots movements, and collaborate with various stakeholders to advocate for policies that prioritize the welfare of our citizens. As students, we are the voice of the future, and it is our duty to ensure that this voice is heard loud and clear.”
