Former presidential aide and author, Reno Omokri, has cautioned parents against raising children with the expectation that they will serve as a form of financial security in old age.
In a post on his verified Facebook account on Friday, Omokri stressed that children are not obliged to repay their parents, noting that it is the responsibility of parents to provide unconditional love and care since children did not ask to be born.
He explained that many parents often see their children as a form of investment, but such expectations can lead to disappointment.
According to him, parents can disappoint their children by failing in their duties, but children cannot be said to disappoint their parents as they owe no such obligation.

Omokri urged parents to focus on raising their children with genuine dedication rather than viewing them as future pension plans.
He wrote, “Stop having children because you expect them to be your pension plan for old age! Raise your children with dedication, not expectation. You owe them a duty because they did not ask to be born. They do not owe you. You owe them. Once you understand that, you will never accuse your children of disappointing you. You can disappoint them. They can’t disappoint you. You owe them unconditional love!”
