The Yobe State Police Command, in its crackdown on electricity power cable vandals, has arrested two suspects with stolen cables that were about to be carted away.
The Police Command has made significant strides in combating the vandalism of public property, particularly power and electricity distribution infrastructure.
On April 12, 2025, at about 1300 hrs, the Karasuwa Divisional Police Headquarters apprehended Yahaya Mustapha, 28, and Bello Yakubu, 38, both of Takari Ward, Gashua, Bade LGA, in possession of a large quantity of dismantled power transmission cables in Waro Village, Karasuwa LGA.
The Command’s PPRO, SP Dungus Abdulkareem, in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, stated that the suspects were caught while loading the cables onto a tricycle.

He stated, “As investigations commence, the B Divisional Police Headquarters, while on patrol, discovered an electricity service wire hidden in an isolated area of Maisandari Ward, Damaturu, suspected to have been vandalized. Investigations are underway to identify the source and perpetrators.”
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, reiterated the Command’s commitment to fighting crime and vandalism, urging community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or individuals around public property.
He further commended the citizens of the state for providing credible information, which has helped boost the Command’s efforts.
The Commissioner was quoted as saying, “If you see something suspicious, say something. Report any unusual activities or individuals to the authorities. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining public safety and security.”
