Special Adviser to the Yobe State governor on press and information affairs, Abdulahi Bego, has said that the state government has spent about N2.4 billion to build new primary school classroom blocks.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, Bego said this was done during the 2016 fiscal year because a lot of primary schools were destroyed by the insurgents.
Bego told tbe Nigerian tribune many primary schools were destroyed by the insurgents in the entire state which was why new furniture would be provided for the kids to learn in conducive environments.
At the secondary school level, Bego told the Nigerian tribune that the governor had invited experts from the national teachers institute (NTI) to train most of the teachers in a bid to ensure that they have access to quality and updated education.
“As a matter of fact, the governor created a youth empowerment programme through which about 8,000 diploma certificate holders were recruited and trained by the NTI so that the manpower base of the junior secondary and the primary school could be enriched.
“Since we are rebuilding secondary schools across the three senatorial districts, we do hope we will be able to fill these rebuilt schools with these new teaching staff”, he said
The special adviser said that apart from the provision of more staff to man both the primary and secondary schools and the replacement of non-existent staff due to insurgency, the government still provided regular meals for primary school kids as a stimulus to keep them interested in education.
