Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has expressed sympathy for victims of the recent flooding in the state, describing the recurring disaster as a worrying trend that continues to destroy homes and farmlands year after year.
In a statement issued by his Director-General of Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to immediately provide relief materials to affected communities.
“We have, in the past few years, been battling the menace of floods in some parts of the state, destroying houses and farmlands,” Buni said.
He further instructed local government councils to work closely with SEMA to ensure that victims receive timely assistance.

The governor, noting that the situation reflects the harsh realities of climate change, said his administration is committed to finding long-term solutions.
Buni also ordered the relocation of residents in flood-prone areas to safer locations, tasking council chairmen to liaise with traditional rulers and community leaders to enforce the directive.
“As the rainfall intensifies, people in flood-prone areas are kindly requested to move to safer places because we cannot predict when the floods may occur,” he advised.
