Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has said the Damaturu flyover, which is nearing completion, will ease traffic congestion, reduce road accidents, and address flooding in the state capital.
Buni said the project was conceived to address long-standing transportation and drainage challenges at the city’s major road intersection while improving traffic flow within Damaturu.
In a statement issued by his Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, the governor said the intersection, popularly known as the “Cross”, was built in 1973 to serve traffic along the Kano-Maiduguri and Bayamari-Biu highways.
According to the statement, the road network had not been expanded over the years despite increased vehicular movement and the creation of Yobe State in 1991.
The statement said the state government awarded the flyover contract to TRIACTA Construction Company in 2025 with a one-year completion period and a commitment to full funding.
It added that the scope of the project was later expanded to include the reconstruction and expansion of a 6.6-kilometre stretch of road from the 5:30 Petrol Station to the 27th August Stadium.

The governor also highlighted other urban renewal projects in the state capital, noting that the Damaturu Modern Market had been completed and was already in use, while an ultra-modern plaza and a modern motor park were nearing completion.
The motor park, according to the statement, will include passenger hostels, a mechanic garage, a shopping complex, a clinic, a police station, a bank, and a fire service station.
The state government said preparations were under way for the commissioning of the flyover as work on the project nears completion.
