Chairman, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has emphasised the critical role of accurate data interpretation, analysis and application for effective governance and sustainable development.
Akinbode made this known at the local government secretariat, Ayetoro, during the opening ceremony of a two-day training programme organised, in collaboration with Sanguine Academy on Structured Query Language (SQL) and Power BI, for selected members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Yewa North and local youths.
The local government chairman described the initiative as a reflection of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and local government administrations’ ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and skills acquisition.
“This training could not have come at a better time. In today’s data-driven world, the ability to accurately interpret and utilise data is essential. Sound policies and impactful programmes are built on evidence-based decisions, and we remain committed to investing in initiatives that strengthen capacity among our youths,” he said.
The chairman, in a release signed by the council’s Zonal Information Officer, Mr Lateef Akintunde, noted that the training was aimed at building data literacy skills, with a long-term goal of reducing unemployment and increasing economic opportunities for young people in the area.
Vice Chairman of the local government, Joseph Ilori and the Secretary, Alhaji Lukman Akinyemi, lauded the initiative and encouraged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity.
In his remarks, Programme facilitator, Mr. Adewale Olabamiji, who joined the event virtually from the United Kingdom, expressed delight at the council’s progressive approach and commended Dr. Akinbode’s administration for prioritising data literacy as a tool for effective governance.
“I look forward to seeing each participant emerge from this training better equipped to make meaningful contributions in their respective fields,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Joseph Adebesin and Miss Karimot Akinbode, commended the organisers for their dedication to youth development, describing the training as timely and impactful.
