The 1972-76 set of Yejide Girls’ Grammar School, Molete, Ibadan, under the aegis of Yejide Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls’ Association (YOGA), for the fifth time have supported indigent students of the school with scholarship award.
This year’s event, as in past years, honoured the legacy of Mrs. Morenikeji Adepoju (née Agbaje), former president of the 72-76 set whose commitment to academic excellence inspired the scholarship programme.
In her welcome address, the President of the 72-76 set, Dr. Olamide Adesina, expressed pride in the association’s dedication to uplifting deserving students with strong academic potential.
Adesina noted that: “This scholarship award is a tribute to Mrs. Adepoju’s enduring vision. Her commitment to supporting promising students reflects our shared mission of fostering success and helping students reach their full potential.”
The scholarship programme, initiated in 2019, supports 10 students each session—two in each class from JSS 2 to SS3 to help remove financial obstacles to their education.
Adesina emphasised the importance of this initiative, calling it a step towards making Yejide Girls’ Grammar School a place where learning flourishes and students have every opportunity to thrive.
Attendees included representatives from the Zonal Education Office, school board members, staff, Parent-Teacher Association members, students, parents, and members of the Adepoju family. The highlight of the ceremony was the formal presentation of scholarships to selected students across various classes, recognising their achievements and encouraging them to keep striving.
The National President of YOGA, Mrs Moji Giwa Osagie, represented by the National Vice-President, Princess Bose Ologbenla, commended the impact of the scholarships.
Alongside school officials and members of the Adepoju family, she encouraged the students to embrace discipline, persistence, and integrity in their educational pursuits.
Vice-President of the 72-76 set and Scholarship Coordinator, Mrs. Olayemi Adana, in her remarks noted that: “Success is attainable for anyone willing to put in the effort, urging students to view the scholarship as a stepping stone towards their aspirations.
This year’s scholarship recipients included: Olalekan Busayo Julianah and Olajire Dorcas Eniola (JSS 2), Eze Favour and Adedeji Taofeeqah (JSS 3), Olabamiji Nifemi and Awwal Fatimoh (SS 1), Olofin Delight and Abdulkadir Aishai (SS 2) and Raphael Deborah (SS 3).
The Scholarship Committee, led by the Chairperson, Mrs. Olayemi Adana, was applauded for their commitment to the success of the programme success. Committee members, including Oyinlola Bankole, Funmi Ajayi, Adenike Ogidan, Omolara Onabolu and Yemisi Omotoyinbo, were recognised for their dedication and their example of giving back to the school and community.
In her closing remarks, the Senior School Principal, Mrs. Olalekan O., expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Old Girls’ Association, particularly the 72-76 Set, for their unwavering support through generous contributions despite economic challenges. She encouraged parents to continue fostering an environment that supports their children’s education and personal growth.
The awardees were celebrated by family members, friends and mentors, who shared hopes for their continued success and their role in upholding the school’s legacy of academic excellence and community service.
