Worried about the increasing rate of fire outbreaks in homes and public places, the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has organised a one-day media engagement in Yola, to create awareness of its operational services and the need for safety practices within its area of franchise.

The event featured paper presentations, interactive sessions, and an official visit to an injection substation.

In his presentation titled ‘Nigerian Electricity Distribution Industry and Understanding the Value Chain’, Masoud Salisu, YEDC’s Head of Regulatory and Compliance, highlighted the company’s successes and challenges.

He stressed the importance of collaborating with the media to enhance public awareness and understanding of YEDC’s services.

While addressing customer concerns, Nafisa Ahmed Hamid, YEDC’s Head of Customer Care, reassured participants that customer satisfaction remains the company’s top priority.

She emphasized YEDC’s proactive approach to engaging customers and resolving their concerns transparently.

Mallam Haruna Yaya Adamu, YEDC’s Health, Safety, and Environment Officer, in his presentation, cautioned the public on the safe use of electrical appliances.

“Electrical failures often lead to fire outbreaks”.

Stressing that adhering to safety measures is crucial to preventing unnecessary loss of lives.

As part of the engagement, participants were taken on a guided tour of an injection substation, led by Bulus Abegye and other senior YEDC officials, to gain firsthand insights into the company’s infrastructure and service delivery.

The event reinforced YEDC’s commitment to transparency, customer service, and safety while fostering stronger ties with the media to improve public understanding of its operations.
