YD 2024: Kalu assures youths on laws, policies to enhance digital transformation

As Nigeria joins the global community in celebrating the 2024 International Youth Day (IYD), the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has praised Nigerian youth for their significant contributions to the economy. He assured that the government is committed to enacting legislation and policies that will enhance digital transformation and bridge the digital divide.

Observed annually on August 12, International Youth Day recognizes the contributions of youth to societal development while also addressing the challenges they face. The theme for this year’s IYD is “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, the Deputy Speaker highlighted the critical role Nigerian youth play in driving rapid economic growth and development. He noted that youth constitute the largest demographic of users and developers shaping digital trends globally, making them a key group in harnessing the transformative power of technology to address global challenges.

Hon. Kalu emphasized that this year’s theme aligns with the agenda of the 10th House of Representatives, which seeks to use legislative tools to empower the country’s youth as a formidable force in the digital marketplace. He underscored the importance of strengthening innovation and technology to enhance Nigeria’s global competitiveness, noting that the 10th House plans to introduce a national innovation strategy focused on achieving digital transformation. This will include legislation to promote digital skills development programs.

Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker recalled how Speaker Tajudeen Abbas recently led the House in engaging with leaders and representatives of various youth organizations at the National Assembly, with the aim of listening to their concerns and working towards lasting solutions.

Hon. Kalu urged the youth to champion national unity and collective prosperity by utilizing the various initiatives, programs, and policies developed by the government. He also assured them that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to address their challenges.
