As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to observe World Tourism Day with the theme “Tourism and Peace”, the Senior Special Assistant to Abia State governor on Tourism and Entertainment, Okey Justice Martins has called on Abians to embrace peace as a way of bridging cultural gaps, and promoting economic development of state.
Speaking on the occasion, Martins explained that though the state has decided to mark the day on low key due to other pressing state engagements, “the need for peace and promotion of tourism in the state cannot be over-emphasized”.
He noted; “By valuing and preserving cultural and natural heritage, tensions can be reduced and peaceful coexistence nurtured while reaffirming the commitment of the state to the promotion of tourism in the coming days”.
For him, “Tourism can also promote economic interdependence between neighbours, encouraging cooperation and peaceful development”, as well as longevity.
Recall in Abia state, the state governor, Alex Otti has initiated moves to promote tourism in the state through, among others, the renovation and revitalization of the moribund Enyimba Hotels, Aba into a five star hotel.
This, the state governor said would make the Abia State industrial city, Aba to be an enviable investment destination for entrepreneurs, both in the state and from outside the state.
