Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, is actively participating in the ongoing 11th South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission (BNC) meeting, which runs from 28th November to 3rd December 2024.

As Co-Chair of the Social Sectoral Committee, the Minister of Women Affairs is tasked with strengthening cooperation between both nations in critical areas such as youth development, women empowerment, child development, cultural collaboration, education, and tourism.

The session aims to consolidate and make progress on decisions from the 2022 Ministerial Mid-Term Review, ensuring stronger ties and impactful collaboration.

The Minister is joined by her South African counterpart, Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Sindisiwe Lydia Chikunga, to agree on specific terms of cooperation that will benefit women, children, youth, and persons with disabilities in both countries.

Nigeria’s delegation to the ministerial meeting includes the Ministers of Women Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, State for Foreign Affairs, Defence, Industry, Trade and Investments, Agriculture and Food Security, Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, as well as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

This year’s Bi-National Commission marks the 25th anniversary of the framework, which was established to strengthen ties between Africa’s two leading economies.

The ministerial meeting is a precursor to Tuesday’s presidential BNC, where President Bola Tinubu and President Cyril Ramaphosa will jointly lead discussions and adopt frameworks for Nigeria-South Africa cooperation.
