Woman lifeless body found in Church well in Ondo

THE lifeless body of a middle-aged woman, Mrs Funke Ojo, was on Sunday morning found inside a well in the premises of a Cherubim and Seraphim church located at Ayedun Quarters in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Members of the Church and the people of the area who spoke with Nigerian Tribune could not identify what is responsible for the death of the woman, saying the deceased did not have any trace of mental illness.

A source explained that the deceased left her mother’s house for the church for a programme after complaining of malaria symptoms.

The source said no one noticed the arrival of the woman at the church until her corpse was discovered in the well at the church premises

He said, ” On Saturday night, she complained of malaria fever symptoms to her mother but headed to the church later. Her mother advised her to rest but she insisted going to the church.

” Nobody knew how she got into the well, someone who wanted to fetch water in the well this morning (Sunday) saw her lifeless body inside the well and raised the alarm to call the attention of the residents of the area.”

It was gathered that some youths in the area evacuated the corpse from the well and took away her for burial.

However, the Pastor of the church, Segun Oriade, was arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for interrogation, following the ugly incident.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph, said the command has commenced the investigation into the matter saying the police in the state were trying to know why and how the incident happened.

He confirmed the arrest of the pastor of the church, saying ” he was invited to help us in our investigation. ”

He said, ” It happened early this morning (Sunday), the deceased was sick and her mother took her to the church for prayer and later she (the deceased) went home and came back to the church late in the evening on Saturday.

“But her lifeless body was found inside the well on Sunday morning. Nobody can say anything about it for now but we have commenced the investigation into the matter. “
