President, Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), Osamede Uwubanmwen, has said the nation’s economy can hit the $1Trillion mark in less than a year, if the government creates the right policies that will enable businesses thrive.
Osamede, during an interview with journalists at the association’s CMO’s lectures, held in Lagos, recently, noted that while the nation’s marketing practitioners have a role to play in achieving this, they must, however, be allowed to operate in an environment that is enabling to their businesses.
He described the country as a brand, that has the potential of seamlessly attracting investors, through proper positioning.
The ADVAN boss identified the country’s population, the human and natural resources, and the skill level of its people, as some of those ingredients that could make it attain the $1trillion economy in less than a year.
According to him, the revolution in the nation’s entertainment industry, the creative use of the social media space by Nigerians, and their never-say-die spirits, are also some of those factors for such optimism.
The ADVAN boss, however, believed the environment must be right, to make such target achievable.
Speaking on the need for Chief Marketing Officers to step up the career ladder and become CEOs to enable them effectively discharge their duties, Osamede believed it has become imperative for the nation’s marketing practitioners to begin to market themselves.
“The challenge for me is, how do we market ourselves? We market brands, but do we market ourselves? If you’re producing a million pieces of a product, we are very good with it because we know we can sell it.
“Marketing goes as far as even the financial statement. We make sure brands are healthier.
But, what we have not done, as marketers, is being able to showcase effectively what we can do in that boardroom and make as many CMOs as possible become CEOs,” he added.
