… promises inauguration by 2026
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the emergency rehabilitation and dualisation of the Karu Interchange, Customs Clinic Junction road, with assurances that the project will be completed and inaugurated by June 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony in Karu on Wednesday, Wike tasked Nigerians to always hold elected officials accountable.
He reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to extend development to both the city centre and satellite towns.
“When you elect people, hold them accountable. Mr President promised to develop Abuja and its satellite areas, and today we are here to fulfil part of that promise,” Wike told the jubilant crowd.
He noted that Karu had long suffered neglect but assured residents that the area would soon witness a transformation with modern roads, streetlights, and improved business opportunities.
He cited the completed Nyanya–Karshi road as an example of the administration’s commitment to easing movement and boosting socio-economic life in the suburbs.
The minister also commended the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, for persistently advocating for the rehabilitation of the Karu road.
“Because he has the interest of his people at heart, we listened to him. In politics, if you do for me, I do for you. If you help me, I help you,” Wike said.
Wike further disclosed that, in addition to the Karu dualisation, other roads would be rehabilitated, including: Customs Clinic Junction to CBN Quarters Junction, Customs Clinic Junction to EFCC, NIA Quarters Road, Karshi Road and Primus Hospital Road.
“These projects will all be delivered within 10 months,” Wike assured, adding that contractors had already been mobilised and payments made.
He urged the community, especially youths, to protect the projects and participate in their execution through supply and labour opportunities.
Also speaking, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as life-transforming, noting that it would significantly decongest traffic between Karu and other parts of Abuja. She thanked President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure in the FCT and lauded Wike’s “pragmatic leadership” in driving modernisation across satellite towns.
On his part, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadri Zukliflu, explained that the project, to be executed by Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, will cover a 5.4-kilometre dual carriageway with culverts, lined drains, walkways, solar-powered streetlights, and asphalt layers.
He emphasised that the initiative would complement the already rehabilitated Nyanya–Karshi road and enhance free traffic flow within the axis.
The coordinator also used the occasion to convey condolences to Wike on the recent passing of Mrs Grace Adayilo, former FCT Head of Service, describing her as a loyal and dedicated public servant.
The FCT Minister assured residents that he would personally monitor the project’s progress to ensure timely delivery, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda is about “bringing back hope to the people.”
