The Women in Career Advancement Network (WICAN) has called on women to take charge of their career empowerment and redefine success on their own terms.

This was the focus of the Career Smart Woman Conference 2025, held in Abuja, Nigeria, which brought together over 200 women in careers and business.

Keynote speaker Nonyelum Ujam emphasized the importance of believing in oneself and pursuing one’s dreams. “The major goal is to let the younger generation of girls see that you can achieve anything you set your heart to do. No giving up on your dreams,” she said.

The conference featured panel sessions on topics such as workplace resilience, navigating toxic environments, and balancing ambition with emotional wellness.

WICAN Founder and Convener Eniola Peters stressed the importance of community and support in women’s career advancement. “We are not just building careers; we’re nurturing confidence, resilience, and legacy,” she said.

The conference also showcased innovative female-led brands and empowerment initiatives, and launched Peters’ new book, The Career Smart Woman. Participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and empowerment, and a call to action to implement what they learned and build on new connections.

As one participant said, “This event didn’t just teach me — it healed, empowered, and challenged me. I’m leaving with a clearer mind, a stronger voice, and sisters for the journey.”

The conference highlighted the need for women to take ownership of their careers and create their own paths to success. It also emphasized the importance of mentorship, networking, and support systems in helping women achieve their goals.

WICAN’s mission is to equip women in careers and business with the resources, mentorship, and community they need to succeed. The organization aims to create a platform where women can connect, learn, and grow together.

The Career Smart Woman Conference 2025 was a testament to WICAN’s commitment to empowering women and promoting their career advancement. The event provided a unique opportunity for women to come together, share their experiences, and learn from one another.

By redefining success and taking charge of their careers, women can create a brighter future for themselves and for generations to come. As Peters noted,

“This isn’t just about where we are now, it’s about who we are becoming — for ourselves and the women coming behind us.”
