The leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has explained why they are supporting the leadership of the national president of National Association of Nigerian Students (NAN) under the leadership of Comrade Olushola Oladoja.
According to NAPS, they are supporting Oladoja-led NANS because “his emergence was the collective will of the Nigerian students”.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, following the crisis which engulfed the students’ body in recent times, which was made available to journalists in Kaduna.
The statement said that NAPS wants to make its position known and make clarifications for posterity.
It said, “During the convention held at the old parade ground, which is adjacent to Defense HQ, Comr. Olushola Oladoja emerged as the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), saying, the decision of our endorsement prior to the convention was rooted in a transparent and democratic process, reflecting the collective will of the student body.
“Comrade Oladoja’s unwavering dedication to student welfare and his history of selfless service underscore his suitability for this esteemed position.
However, on the recent assertions by Atiku Abubakar Isah, claiming the presidency of NANS, are not only unfounded but also detrimental to the unity and integrity of our student movements, NAPS chastised the former number two man that Nigerian students are serious stakeholders in Nigeria’s project.
The student’s body, however, counselled VDM, known for his meticulous investigations and commitment to truth, to apply the same rigour in examining this matter.
“The allegations against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, appear to be politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation and hinder his efforts in youth and student empowerment.
“It is noteworthy that prior to VDM’s public acknowledgment of Seyi Tinubu’s potential in leadership, there were no significant attacks on Seyi’s character.
“The sudden surge in allegations post-acknowledgment suggests a calculated attempt to sever the budding alliance between a prominent youth advocate and a potential future leader.
Investigations reveal that Mr. Isah, a 100-level student reportedly aged 54 with familial responsibilities, neither participated in the electoral process nor engaged in campus campaigns. Such actions undermine the democratic ethos we strive to uphold.”
Furthermore, Mr. Isah has publicly retracted his allegations against Mr. Seyi Tinubu, acknowledging that he was misled, even though we’re aware that he is being used by political opportunists seeking to discredit the current administration.
“This admission underscores the importance of verifying information before disseminating it, especially when it pertains to individuals who have consistently demonstrated support for youth and student empowerment,” the statement declared.
