The Nigerian Cassava Farmers Growers Association of Nigeria, Kano State chapter, has emphasised the importance of women’s involvement in cassava production as road map to tackling poverty and hunger.
This was disclosed by the Kano State chapter chairperson, Hajiya Halima Zubairu Dambatta, during a visit to cassava seedlings banks in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
She noted that cassava production can generate income and create job opportunities for the teeming youths and women’s population.
“Cassava production can be a game-changer for our economy and our youths. If our youths can fully engage in cassava production, it will not only boost our economy but also take them out of restiveness.”
She, therefore, called on the government to support cassava farmers by providing soft loans and modern mechanical equipment to enhance productivity, saying ”we need the government’s support to take our cassava production to the next level,”
“With the right tools and resources, we can increase our yield and improve the quality of our cassava products.”
“We need to encourage more women to get involved in cassava production and provide them with the necessary support and resources.”
“Cassava production can generate employment opportunities for our youths and contribute to our economic growth. “We need to tap into this potential and create an enabling environment for cassava farmers to thrive,” she said.
The chairman praised the Kano State government for its efforts in promoting cassava production in the state. “Kano State has made significant progress in cassava production, and we need to build on this momentum.
“With the right policies and support, we can make Kano State a hub for cassava production in Nigeria,” she said.
