Why we still sell forms for midwifery training instead of JAMB admission — Oyo Nursing College

Published by

PROVOST, Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Mrs Gbonjubola Owolabi, has said the sale of forms for its basic midwifery training is to ensure Nigeria has more skilled birth attendants that can support its move to ensure a reduction in its maternal mortality rate.

Mrs Owolabi, in a reaction to the college selling its forms and not admitting through JAMB for the programme, said it is to ensure that the college keeps fulfilling its mandate of training a health workforce for Nigeria’s health sector.

“We want interested candidates to buy forms for the three-year course that commences this month; the examination for the intake of these candidates will hold in about two weeks; the form will be available for a short period of time, but yet, we want all that is interested in Nigeria to benefit from the programme.

“What we are trying to do is support the reduction of maternal mortality in Nigeria; it will increase the skill of birth attendants. Only 100 people who qualify will be taken, including males. For more than 10 years, we have been accepting males interested in midwifery for training.

“It is an opportunity for individuals who are passionate about nursing to take a significant step towards realising their career aspirations; it is an online application through the college website; any payment should not be made through any individual, agent, or personal bank account aside from the school’s website by buying the form online,” she said.
