Following complaints from some quarters over alleged indiscriminate raiding of gathering youths late night in Warri and environs, the District Police Officer (DPO), B’ Division of the Warri Area Command, Nigeria Police Force, SP Andrew Inedegbor has explained the reason.
Addressing journalists at the Press Centre of the Warri Correspondents Chapel on Thursday in Warri, Delta State, the police officer said the raids were instructions handed down by his superiors.
“Yes, we pick up young men wherever they gather and then screen them. It’s an order from the authorities above. A random arrest is a strategy to apprehend criminals.

“We raid from 10:00 p.m believing the good ones among the youths would have gone to sleep while the bad ones stay behind to perpetrate evil,” he disclosed.
SP Inedegbor, who maintained that his men were battle-ready for good policing during the yuletide, thanked journalists in the area, soliciting maximum cooperation from the media in police activities.
He, however, bemoaned the lack of enough funding of the force, attributing it to the reason for poor logistics and inadequate intelligence gathering.
