Senator Iyiola Omisore
THE governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has said that he is the most favoured to win the September 22 governorship election in the state, being the most popular of all the contestants.
Omisore, a two-time member of the Senate, who expressed confidence over Osun people’s support, placing him above his rival, during an interview programmed late Sunday night, said, “the people determine their leader, the people determine who is popular, the people determine who is credible.”
Reacting to the question of incumbency as a factor that may weaken his submission, Omisore said it was no issue, adding that, “you don’t just do a bedroom analysis or beer parlour analysis; let us wait and see the result of the election. “I am the most popular candidate in Osun State now, the issue is that Osun politics is Omisore and others.”
Blaming his loss in the 2014 governorship election to the incumbent Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the “manipulation of results,” Omisore said, as a former deputy governor of Osun State, (1999 to 2003) and later a senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he was the most experienced of all the contestants.
He said his popularity had caused a defeat before the election to his PDP rival, a party he left for the SDP in Osun, as according to him, the party died the day he left to join the SDP.

“Since I left the PDP, PDP in Osun State has been dead. The point is that Omisore was PDP in Osun State and the PDP was Omisore. The point I left was the fact that I foresaw lack of internal democracy,” Omisore said.
Omisore who also blamed the reason for his departure from PDP on the leadership of the PDP, said, “our convention was held, party officers were chosen; the National Working Committee (NWC) now cancelled all convention decisions against the Supreme Court judgement.”
He said the results of the September 22 polls will justify his claims, as according to him, “the people of Osun State have an interest in Omisore, not any party.”
