Why I registered for 2025 UTME — 94-year-old man

A 94-year-old man, Adedapo Idowu, has revealed that he registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), to fulfill a lifelong dream of pursuing tertiary education.

Idowu’s story was highlighted in the latest bulletin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), where he expressed excitement over the opportunity. “I can now attain my dream at an advanced age,” he said.

He described the UTME registration process as smooth and efficient, praising JAMB for integrating the National Identity Number, which he believes has eliminated discrimination against the elderly, underprivileged, and people with disabilities. 

“The registration staff gave me a sense of belonging through the warm reception at the registration venue,” he noted.

Encouraging JAMB to maintain its seamless registration system, he expressed confidence in taking the examination and achieving success. 

He also advised other candidates to embrace professionalism and contentment in their academic journey.

Tribune Online reports that JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated last week that the 2025 UTME registration will not be extended.

According to him, JAMB has never had a registration process as seamless, fast, and efficient as this year’s, hence there will be no need for an extension.

The 2025 UTME registration commenced on the 31st of January, and according to JAMB, over 700,000 candidates have already registered, including 11,000 underage applicants.

Around 2 million candidates are expected to register between Monday, 3 February, and Monday, 3 March, over a five-week period, with a daily registration target of approximately 60,000 candidates.
