Nigerian rapper Dremo has opened up on his exit from Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), citing what he described as a management structure that prioritised the label’s founder, Davido, over other artistes.
Speaking in a recent interview with Echo Room, the rapper said the label’s internal dynamics limited collaboration among signees and hindered their individual growth within the music industry.
“I didn’t collaborate with Idowest, who was my label mate and fellow rapper, because at that time we were all striving to stay afloat in the music industry. Even DMW as a whole didn’t collaborate much; we never had a record label album. The management focused only on Davido,” he said.
Dremo also expressed dissatisfaction with the level of support he received during his time with the label, noting that it fell short of his expectations.
“The label [DMW] didn’t give me money. It was like a platform. I didn’t get what I wanted from the label,” he said.
According to the rapper, the experience has influenced his decision to remain independent, opting to pursue his career outside the structure of a record label.
