Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State says his decision to dissolve the state executive council is a mid-term review aimed at rejigging his administration for greater efficiency.
Bago, who spoke to journalists on Monday in Minna, explained that the move was not punitive but a strategic measure to inject fresh energy into his government.
“This is a mid-term review of our performance, and as you know very well, these people were appointed by me. I have decided, in the interest of every other person, to rejig the cabinet,” the governor said.
He added that while some commissioners might be reappointed, others could be redeployed to different portfolios where their skills would be better utilised.
“Some may be reappointed, while others may be assigned to other portfolios to give fresh energy to the system. They have done their key performance index: some exceeded it, while we find out that others can be valuable in other fields,” Bago stated.
Despite the dissolution, key officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers in his office, were retained.
The governor commended the outgoing cabinet members for their service, noting that they laid the groundwork for his administration’s progress.
“All of them are part of the foundation we had; we are grateful for their contributions. What we have done is a collective responsibility,” he said.
