THERE is a timeless biblical principle that gratitude attracts divine favour.
Throughout the scriptures, individuals who consistently acknowledged God in times of both triumph and trial often received extraordinary grace. With this in mind, one cannot help but reflect on the leadership style of the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Beyond the realm of politics, governance, and the daily demands of public office, Governor Adeleke has distinguished himself through a remarkable disposition that many admire.
His unwavering commitment to publicly glorifying God and expressing heartfelt gratitude at nearly every opportunity stands out.
In an era where the burdens of governance often overshadow public expressions of faith, Governor Adeleke has remained remarkably consistent. Whether at government functions, public ceremonies, religious gatherings, or community events, he does not hesitate to proclaim God’s goodness and acknowledge the divine influence in his life and administration.

This singular attribute has endeared him to countless residents of Osun State, cutting across religious, ethnic, and political divides. His humility in the presence of God, along with his willingness to set aside the prestige and protocols associated with the office of governor during times of worship, has become a defining feature of his leadership.
The Bible declares in Psalm 100:4: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto Him and bless His name.” Likewise, 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds believers: “In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
For many observers, Governor Adeleke appears to embody these scriptural principles. His expressions of gratitude are not merely ceremonial; they reflect a genuine acknowledgment that leadership is a trust from God, not just the result of human effort.
History provides an example in the late former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala. Throughout his tenure, Alao-Akala became widely known for his deep love for God and his open expressions of gratitude. Regardless of the occasion, he never let the prestige of his office hinder his heartfelt worship.
It was not unusual to see the governor, elegantly dressed in his flowing agbada, dancing joyfully or even rolling on the ground in thanksgiving before God. To many, these actions symbolised humility, reverence, and an understanding that no earthly position surpasses the sovereignty of God.
This unique disposition made Alao-Akala stand out beyond the political landscape of Oyo State. Even after leaving office, he remained widely loved, respected, and remembered not only for his political achievements but also for his generous support of religious causes, particularly within the Christian community, and for publicly acknowledging God’s faithfulness.
Many who shared his faith viewed his ability to navigate political challenges, survive intense opposition, and remain relevant throughout his career as evidence of God’s sustaining grace in response to a grateful heart. While such conclusions are matters of personal faith rather than demonstrable fact, they reflect a deeply held belief among many that God honours those who honour Him.
The scriptures affirm this principle in 1 Samuel 2:30, where God states: “Those who honor Me, I will honor.” Similarly, 2 Chronicles 16:9 says: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.”
Governor Adeleke’s conduct evokes similar reflections. His consistent public expressions of gratitude, humility before God, and refusal to let status or protocol hinder his worship have become part of his public identity. Rather than presenting himself as self-made, he repeatedly acknowledges God as the source of his strength and success.
In addition to his expressions of faith, his administration has pursued infrastructure renewal and social development programmes to improve the welfare of the people of Osun State.
Supporters highlight these initiatives as evidence of his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and express a desire for him to accomplish even more if given another term in office.
As Osun State approaches the upcoming governorship election on August 15, many who admire Governor Adeleke believe that his record of service, combined with his visible gratitude to God, positions him favourably in the eyes of both the electorate and, in their faith, before God. Their prayer is that the God whom he has consistently exalted in public will reward him with renewed strength, greater wisdom, and, if it aligns with God’s purpose, a decisive electoral victory.
The Bible concludes in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Ultimately, whether in leadership or everyday life, gratitude remains one of the noblest virtues. It reflects humility, dependence on God, and an appreciation that every achievement is sustained by divine mercy.
If gratitude truly opens the door to greater favour, as the Scriptures teach, then Governor Ademola Adeleke’s consistent heart of thanksgiving offers a compelling lesson for political leaders and everyone entrusted with influence and responsibility.
