The Ekiti State government has announced that it has distributed over N1billon to its workers as car and housing loans since the advent of the Ayodele Fayose’s administration.

A government statement on Sunday said it disbursed the over N1billion as housing and car loans to workers in the state’s public service since the inception of the Fayose-led administration about two and a half years ago.

The state’s Head of Service (HoS), Dr. Olugbenga Faseluka, who made this known in Ado Ekiti, said over N413.18million was disbursed as housing loans while N696.87million was disbursed to 2,997 workers during the period.

According to him, while the housing loans were disbursed in tranches, the car loans which range from N80,000 to N1.5million depending on the beneficiaries’ salary grade levels, were disbursed in full to the benefitting workers.

Faseluka said Governor Fayose also recently approved the reintegration of the workers in the state’s public service into the National Housing Fund (NHF) with effect from January this year, as part of efforts at ensuring workers in the state had houses of their own.

He disclosed that the state government had already acquired 20 hectares of land opposite the Obasanjo Estate at Ikere Road, Ado Ekiti for the take-off of the staff housing scheme which, he said would be financed by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

Dr Faseluka said “an enabling circular for the remittance of staff salaries to the NHF had already been issued preparatory for the take-off of the scheme.”

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to the welfare of workers, and recalled that Governor Fayose had, at several times assured that there would neither be a pay cut nor would any worker be retrenched in spite of the prevailing economic recession emphasising that the Governor also promised to pay all outstanding salaries before the end of his tenure.
