Adamawa state Governor, Ahamdu Fintiri has said that his administration is investing in Agriculture with a lot of strategies lined up to spur productivity and enhance the living standard of farmers in the state.
The Governor stated this on Wednesday at the opening of a two-day retreat for North-East based Journalists, farmers and agric extension agents organized by the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. in Yola.
Represented by his Deputy, Chief Crowther Seth, the governor said that, “without the understanding and buying of the use of modern and emerging technology like the Biotechnology and biosafety regulations, efforts of the government to enhance Agricultural production through emerging technologies will bring vain.”
Ahmadu Finitiri added that “because of the premium my administration placed on Agriculture, we have just launched the N100b agriculture Bond as practical move to ensure job creation and food availability.”
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Mahmood Mohammed Abubakar in his goodwill message applauded the effort of the organisers of the retreat, saying “our ways of farming must be increased technologically to meet up with the current challenges .”
Represented by Engineer Frank Satumari, the Minister, “the population of our farming communities is seriously under threat, the use of hoe and cutlass is also becoming a great challenge as our population is not reducing but increasing geometrically .”
He commended Federal Government in the fight against criminality and the insecurity challenges so as to enable farmers to have sufficient food production.
Also Speaking, Director General, National Biotechnology Development Agency (NAPDA), Professor Abdullahi Mustapha said that the retreat was to improve agricultural practice and productivity as well as prepare journalists to be an integral part of this development.
He added that the development of such technologies is to help our smallholders overcome the teething challenges associated with farming.
