The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara state has announced Hon. Mohammed Lawal Kurya as its candidate for the Kaura Namoda South by-election, saying the party would win the election.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Zamfara State PDP Secretary, Naziru Ibrahim Rufai, while briefing newsmen on the emergence of the PDP candidate in the state.
The PDP state secretary maintained that Governor Dauda Lawal has done what other past governors in the state have failed.
“We are confident of winning the forthcoming bye election, it’s clear to everyone in Zamfara state that Governor Lawal’s achievements, particularly payment of pension and gratuity to all retired state civil servants, which amounts to over N13 billion naira, would be one reason that electorates in the area would massively vote for our candidate,” he stated.
According to him, Mohammed Lawal Kurya emerged PDP candidate for the forthcoming Kaura Namoda South by-election after many aspirants withdrew.
After the release of the schedule for the by-election from the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Zamfara state PDP was directed by its National secretariat, Abuja, to start preparing for the by-election of Kaura Namoda South state house of Assembly.
“Fourteen aspirants submitted their letters of interest initially to the PDP office in the state. Gradually, only 4 have purchased party nomination forms to run for the primary election,” he said.
He further revealed that after consultation with party stakeholders in the area, they sat with the 4 aspirants, and reached a consensus agreement to leave for Mohammed Lawal Kurya to run as the PDP candidate.
It was gathered that the PDP primary for the by-election of Kaura Namoda South was supervised by 5 5-member committee from the National Secretariat of the party, headed by Nasir Mohammed and a representative of INEC in the state.
