VICE Chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan, Professor Timothy Adjumo on Monday said the university will continue to promote excellence in character building, enhancement of human dignity and self-discovery through quality education.
Adejumo said this during the second International Conference of Nigeria Society for Microbial Ecology (NSME), tagged, ‘Microbial Dynamics at the Nexus of Environment: Exploring Interdisciplinary Approaches for Sustainable Environment’ held in the institution.
According to the VC, NSME is an affiliate body of the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME), based in the Netherlands and a non-profit association in the field of microbial ecology with a mandate to provide information and platforms for members to connect, interact, organise scientific events, sponsor problem-solving research, and anchor a high-impact journal where ground-breaking research efforts are published.
He said the conference was meant to promote the exchange of scientific information on microbial ecology as well as enable participants to interact and discuss some of the current advances in the field of science.
Adejumo said NSME will continue to serve the microbial ecologists’ wider community by supporting research and education, build a world-class society that brings microbial ecologists together for the purpose of fostering innovate, collaborative, multidisciplinary, multinational research and communicate knowledge in microbial ecology to scientists, policy makers and the public.
He appreciated the keynote speaker, Professor Olubukola Babalola of the North-West University, South Africa, Professor Kabiru Olusegun Akinyemi of the Department of Microbiology, Lagos State University, as well as Professor Festus Olajubu of the Department of Microbiology, Adekunle Ajasin University,Akungba-Akoko, who were lead paper presenters at the event.
