The Chairman of Sandamu Local Government Area in Katsina State, Alhaji Usman Nalado, said he has successfully ended the water scarcity that bedevilled the area for over 19 years with the expenditure of ₦84 million within the period of three years of his administration.
Nalado disclosed this today in a chat with a team of journalists investigating the dividends of democracy in rural areas of Katsina State.
He said the water provision is greatly assisting the entire community since its commissioning last year, noting that the water tank has the standard capacity of distributing 550,000 gallons every day.
According to him, his administration has constructed 8 various boreholes that ease water supply at different locations.
He expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of Governor Dikko Radda for the adequate release of funds to local government areas.
Nalado stated that, in his effort to fulfil his promises, over 120 teachers were recruited, in addition to the provision of 40 classrooms with a standard IT library for learning.
The Sandamu chairman revealed that over 1000 women were trained and assisted in self-reliance as part of efforts to improve general economic growth in the area.
He said, so far, over 2000 bags of grains were distributed freely to the vulnerable during the last Ramadan in the area. With the improvement in revenue in the area, a chalk industry was constructed to ease the provision of learning materials.
Similarly, he said, his administration has constructed and equipped 4 hospitals with adequate medical assistance.
