The Ogun State Government, on Thursday, stated that no child in any of its home would be given out for adoption without due process.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye, said this during a news conference, in Abeokuta, while reacting to a viral video about a woman who found a baby at Sayedero, Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government.
The woman in the video claimed that she did not know the whereabouts of the baby, since he was handed to the Police and the State Government.
Adeleye explained that the baby in question is in good custody, adding that he has been taken to a health facility for proper medical attention in accordance with the ministry guidelines.

She noted that the woman cannot be given the child for adoption because of one of the Ministry’s policy in Ogun State.
“There was a video in the media space about a child that was found at Sayedero area of Ilaro. The video was sent to me and I directed one of the Ministry’s Area Officer in Ilaro to handle the matter.
“Before her arrival, the woman that found the child, had gone to the Police station to report the matter. A Police report was written and the child was handed over to our officer.
“It is our policy that any child found must be taken to hospital for check up before such child is admitted to Stella Obasanjo Home, in Abeokuta.
“For the strike embarked on by workers in the state, the child was brought to Abeokuta where we have enough hands to care for the child. The baby was taken care of at an hospital, under the watchful eyes of our staff.
“It was learnt that the woman who found the child and some few people followed the child to Abeokuta It was like a case of stalking.
“We work and hand in hand with the Police. Any child found in the state are children of any Governor in power. If they are adoptable, there would be change in name when all necessary legal documentations have been done.
“We don’t give a child for an adoption, in an environment where there stories are known,” the Commissioner added.
She insisted that the child is in good care, and that the Police has documented everything about him.
