Swedish Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson is facing criticism after revealing that he often uses artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT and France’s LeChat as part of his work in government.
This is as some analysts criticised the Swedish PM saying the country did not vote for ChatGPT.
In an interview with Dagen industri, Kristersson, leader of the centre-right Moderate Party, said he consults AI “quite often,” particularly when looking for a different perspective. “If for nothing else than for a second opinion. What have others done? And should we think the complete opposite? Those types of questions,” he explained.
His comments have sparked concern among tech experts and public commentators.
The newspaper Aftonbladet criticised Kristersson in an editorial, saying he had “fallen for the oligarchs’ AI psychosis.”
Simone Fischer-Hübner, a computer science researcher at Karlstad University, told Aftonbladet that caution was necessary when using tools like ChatGPT, especially with sensitive information.
In response, Kristersson’s spokesperson Tom Samuelsson said the prime minister does not enter sensitive material into AI systems.
“Naturally it is not security sensitive information that ends up there. It is used more as a ballpark,” he said.
Virginia Dignum, a professor of responsible artificial intelligence at Umeå University, told Dagens Nyheter that AI systems are not equipped to provide sound political judgement.
“The more he relies on AI for simple things, the bigger the risk of an overconfidence in the system. It is a slippery slope,” “We must demand that reliability can be guaranteed. We didn’t vote for ChatGPT,” she slammed the Swedish PM.
