The family of the late nonagenarian and prominent elder statesman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, has disassociated itself from any unauthorised individuals or groups soliciting support or making burial arrangements on its behalf.
In a statement jointly signed by Mr Panaowei Clark, Chief Ebikeme Clark, and Miss Emomotimi Clark, the family clarified that no person or organisation had been mandated to engage with the Federal or State Governments, groups, or individuals regarding the burial plans for the late patriarch.
The family expressed its gratitude for the outpouring of condolences and support following the passing of Pa E. K. Clark on 17 February 2025. It acknowledged the visits from sympathisers to his country home in Kiagbodo, Delta State, as well as his residences in Lagos and Abuja.
“We are indeed overwhelmed by the show of love by all and sundry that have identified and commiserated with our family during this trying time,” the statement read. “We appreciate the Federal Government and the Governors of various states for their condolences and the moral and financial support provided to help us host the numerous visitors.”
The family also extended its appreciation to socio-cultural organisations such as the Ijaw National Congress (INC), Pan Niger-Delta Forum (PANDEF), Afenifere, Arewa, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Middle Belt Forum, among others, for their expressions of solidarity.
Acknowledging Chief E. K. Clark’s status as a national figure, the family emphasised the need for a carefully coordinated effort in planning his burial.
“To this effect, it has become necessary to inform the general public that no individual or group has been mandated or nominated by the family of late Pa E. K. Clark to approach governments at the Federal and State levels or groups and individuals to solicit support in any form, discuss and/or arrange for the burial of our late father without our direct involvement.”
The family reiterated its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to finalise the burial date and programmes while appealing for the understanding and cooperation of all concerned.
“Once more, we thank our numerous well-wishers for commiserating with the family of late Pa E. K. Clark and also solicit your continued support,” the statement concluded.
