THE Muslim Community of Oyo State (MUSCOYS) is not concerned with politics. Its interest lies in the protection of the interest of Muslims and fighting for their rights.
The chairman, Alhaji Kunle Sanni, stated this in Ibadan at a reception organised by the state chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) for new Muslim commissioners, local government chairmen, the National Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Alhaji Sanni explained that causes being fought by the community were always those of the generality of the Muslims and not for any selfish interest.
“We are not asking for any selfish things. We are fighting for the generality of the Muslims. A Muslim who wakes up and does not wish for the progress of his fellow Muslims is not worthy of being called a Muslim,” he said.
According to him, MUSCOYS is apolitical but what has always been its business are fairness and equality to all religions by the state government.
“We are not APC or PDP. Our interest is, what is due to the Muslims, give it to us and do the same for the Christians but there must not be injustice,” Alhaji Sanni added.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Abdulrahman Abdulraheem, said the case of some foreign missionaries attached to Evangelist Daniel Kolenda visiting some public schools to preach was currently being investigated.
The commissioner exonerated the chairman and permanent secretary of the state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) from the incident.
The chairman of the occasion, Professor Rashid Aderinoye, urged NACOMYO and other Islamic organisations not to be far from their representatives in government, stressing that their regular interaction would resolve many agitations.
In a remark, Dr Olatubosun stated that the administration of the state governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, would continue to be fair to all religions, noting that out of the 17 new commissioners in the state, nine were Muslims.
In a lecture, the Chief Imam of Bashorun Housing Estate Central Mosque, Sheikh Habeebullah Buhari, implored Muslim political officeholders to exhibit the fear of Allah in all their undertakings.
Earlier, the state coordinator of NACOMYO, Alhaji Dawood Afolabi, said it was the tradition of the chapter to organise prayer receptions for Muslim political appointees and other personalities to encourage them to advance the cause of Islam.
Other government functionaries in attendance at the programme held at the NACOMYO secretariat at the Sanyo area of Ibadan were the chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Kamoru Aderibigbe and the chairman of Ibadan North Local Government Area, Mr Yusuf Oladejo.
The new Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Kazeem Gbadamosi and new national officers of FOMWAN led by the Amirah, Alhaja Rafiah Sanni, also attended the programme.
