Wazirin Danbatta urges Kano Muslims to pay zakat

The Wazirin Danbatta, Ambassador Mustapha Shehu, Waziri, has urged the wealthy individuals in the society, that by using their resources to pay Zakat will be a veritable means of cushioning the economic hardship people are going through.

He however described Zakat as a means of wealth redistribution in society.

He then urged the rich in Kano and across the country to pay the annual charity in the holy month of Ramadan as part of collective efforts to ease the present economic bedevilling the populace.

Waziri cited the glorious Qur’an as saying: “And establish prayer and give Zakat, and whatever good you put forward for yourselves – you will find it with Allah.” (2:110, Qur’an).

According to him, Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam, the religion that is a complete way of civilization with established laws that dignify mankind, preach empathy, and uphold fundamental rights and duties of everyone.

While speaking on Tuesday at his palace, the Waziri then urged Kano Business Community and food commodity merchants in the markets to desist from hoarding essential consumables or price-gauging.

He added that the fight against current economic hardship should not be left to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf alone.

He also appealed to all Muslims of means for prompt giving out of Zakatul-Fitr, foodstuff charity, at the end of Ramadan to ensure that poor families are happy during Sallah and have food to eat.

He however emphasised that traditional leaders in Kano are committed to supporting the government in ensuring peace and tranquility of the State, urging the masses to pray for the leaders, especially in the last ten days of the holy month.
