Speaking at a programme organised by The Church Must Vote tagged Priceless, my vote is not for sale, ‘Rev. Samuel said vote buying and selling was destroying the integrity of Nigeria.
Rev. Adeyemo, however reminded Christians forbid them from joining political parties of their choice, nor participating in politics. “Therefore, you should all go out to join political parties, is your constitutional responsibility and nobody has right to deny or deprived you this.
“The question is: if someone give you N5,000 to vote for him such a person has secured the right to rule for four years. That automatically means one has sold his destiny and birth right for four years, “
He called for stringent measures to curb vote-buying, stressing: “If any politician is caught in this shady business of vote buying and selling, such a politician must be disqualified and prosecuted and equally people selling must be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others. “
Ikechukwu Nmor, coordinator of The Church Must Vote, noted that research conducted by the group indicated that less than 32 per cent christians voted during the 2015 general election.
He however added Christians to be more involved in participating in politics and guard their Permanent Voter Cards ((PVCs) because they are the only weapon they would use to elect leaders of their choice.
