Vladimir Putin: 10 quick facts about Russian elected President

Recently, Vladimir Putin won another Russian Presidential election. Putin, who has been in the news internationally in the past two years, extended his rule over Russia in a landslide victory. But what else do you know about Putin? In this article, we’ll explore 10 quick facts about this world leader.

1. Vladimir Putin was born on October 7, 1952, in Leningrad, Soviet Union (now Saint Petersburg, Russia) to Vladimir Spiridonovich and Maria Ivanovna. 
2. He started school near his home on September 1, 1960. Putin studied Law at Leningrad State University from 1970 to 1975. He furthered his education by studying economics at the Saint Petersburg Mining University; finished in 1997.
3. The incumbent Russian President loves reading the works of Karl Max and Friedrich Engels. He is fluent in two more languages; German and English.
4. Putin joined the KGB in 1975 and trained in its school in Okhta Leningrad. He also received further training in Moscow around September 1984.
5. In May 1990, Vladimir Putin was appointed as an advisor to the Mayor of Leningrad, Anatoly Sobchak on international affairs. 1991 was the year he became head of the Committee for External Relations of the Mayor’s Office.
6. He was appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Government of Saint Petersburg in March 1994. On March 26, 1997, he was appointed by Boris Yeltsin as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President. Afterwards, he rose to become the Chief of the Main Control Directorate of the Presidential Property Management Department in 1998.
7. Putin was appointed as the acting Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation on August 9, 1999 by President Yeltsin. Be became the acting President on December 31, when President Yeltsin unexpectedly resigned from his position.

10. Vladimir Putin won the just concluded election in Russia held from March 15 to 17 with 88% of the vote. This is the highest percentage so far. This makes him returning President for the fifth term. His inauguration is scheduled for May 7, 2024.
