Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause a range of symptoms, affecting energy levels, nerves, and cognitive functions such as; Feeling tired or weak, even after rest, Shortness of breath or dizziness, Tingling or numbness in hands and feet (paresthesia), Balance and coordination issues and Muscle weakness. In addition, the condition can also cause Brain fog or difficulty with concentration.
Memory problems and mood changes, including depression or irritability may also occur while the skin may appear pale or slightly yellow due to impaired red blood cell production.
In addition, swollen, inflamed tongue (glossitis) and mouth ulcers or burning sensation in the mouth may occur including blurred or disturbed vision due to damage to the optic nerve.
Other likely causes include; Irregular heartbeat, Shortness of breath due to anemia, Loss of appetite, Nausea, diarrhea, or constipation. Since Vitamin B12 occurs in animal products, people who are at risk include; vegetarians, older adults (reduced absorption), people with digestive disorders and those who have had gastric surgery.
