In response to a man killing a crow, there are conversations making rounds on X, formerly known as Twitter, about the vindictive nature of the crow, among other qualities that it has.
The following are the unique qualities of this vindictive bird, the crow.
- Scientifically, there is no distinct characteristic between crows and ravens
Crows and ravens are often confused, but they are both part of the same bird family, Corvus. Scientists tell them apart by small differences, like their size, the sounds they make, and the look of their feathers, rather than big, obvious changes.
- Crows hold grudges and pass them on to other birds of their kind.
The best part of this is that they never forget the face of someone who has done them well or badly.
Crows are really smart and can remember people’s faces. If someone is nice or mean to them, they won’t forget it. They can even teach other crows to recognise those people and how to react to them, showing they learn from each other.

- They are paradoxical, meaning that they can be dangerous and deadly yet loyal and intelligent
Crows have a complicated personality. They can act aggressively and sometimes hunt smaller animals, but they’re also very loyal to their group and are great at solving problems.
- They stick up for their own, which is why they collectively show kindness or keep grudges, depending on what the recipient deserves
Crows are very social and look out for each other. When they see danger, they team up to scare it away, a behaviour called mobbing. They also share what they know, like warning each other about danger or telling others which humans are friendly
- They can learn about why a crow died so that they can protect themselves from its cause
Still on the qualities of the crow, when a crow sees another dead crow, it pays close attention to what happened. This “funeral-like” behaviour helps crows learn about possible dangers nearby so they can stay safe and avoid the same fate.
- They can solve difficult problems and know how to tackle barriers that come their way
Crows are good at solving problems. They can use tools, figure out how one thing causes another, and change their actions to get past challenges. This shows they are really smart birds.
- They have diverse dialects for sending out different messages
Crows have a wide range of sounds they use to talk to each other. They make different calls to send messages like warning about danger, finding food, or just saying hello. Some groups of crows even have their own “dialects,” or special ways of talking.
- A group of crows is called a “murder.”
This is the old word used to describe a group of crows. People have been using it for hundreds of years to talk about when crows gather together.
- Some of them know what traffic lights mean
City crows have learnt to use traffic lights in smart ways. They drop nuts on the road so cars will run over and crack them, then wait for the red light to safely pick them up. This shows how clever and adaptable they are.
- You know what they hate besides unkind people? Hawks. They make it their primary duty to chase away hawks within their perimeter collectively
Crows see hawks as big threats. To keep their nests and babies safe, they team up and chase after hawks, bothering them until the hawks leave their area.
