A young man, Abbati Mahmud has been allegedly shot dead by a member of the neighborhood security popularly known as Vigilante at Rariya, Igbo Quarters in Bauchi Metropolis headquarters.
The incidence according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar while confirming it to reporters Thursday in Bauchi, happened on the 2nd of December saying that, “ we have received a report about the death of a young man who was allegedly shot dead by a vigilante at igbo quarters. We have commenced investigations over the incident and so far two people have been arrested’ assuring that whoever is found guilty will be prosecuted.
Datti Abubakar caution vigilante members against taking law in to their hands, saying that they must operate within the armpits of the law if they make arrest of if they are investigating something if its above their power they should report it to the police or submit the suspect they arrest to the Police for proper investigation and prosecution.

An eye witness, one Yahuza Shehu Allah Gaba said that the vigilante came to their Shop at Igbo Quarters around 8 pm in the night , they said they came to cut the hair of one Mubarak when they removed Mubaraks cap they discovered that he had already shaved his hair and they went back only to come back in large number and said that they heard some people talking nonsense to them which led to argument.
The eye witness added that, “the deceased took some of his younger ones and kept them in one room, they were eight of them inside the room but one of the vigilante members managed to open the window, pulled his gun and shot Abbati to death. we discovered over 58 gun balls in his body , One of the gun balls hit someone called Aliyu in his leg and injured him” .
He further said that, “we took the deceased to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital where the Doctors certified him dead”.
Owner of the Shop, Alhaji Yahaya Magayakin Ajiya said they were shocked with the killing of the young man because when the vigilante discovered that Mubarak had shaved his hair they mobilized themselves and came back in large number where they started beating people they cut the hand of one person and injured a Woman,
Magayaki said “we have reported the matter to the Police, initially Police arrested six people over the incident but later three were released we don’t know why they were released but we will not leave any stone unturned until the culprits are punished”
Meanwhile a funeral prayer of the deceased was held and he was buried according to Islamic rites amidst tears from his parents and other sympathizers.
