Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has finally broken his silence on why he slapped a pastor who came to preach at his bar on Monday.
Tribune Online reports that the singer’s action has sparked diverse reactions on social media, with many describing it as a clear case of assault.
However, responding to the incident in an Instagram Live video on Tuesday, Portable revealed that his actions resulted from the pastor trespassing on his business.
According to him, the pastor was wrong for coming to his bar on a Monday morning, preaching, and asking people to fast, repent, and stop patronising his bar.
He added that he is also a messenger, emphasising that one messenger should not disturb another.
Speaking in Yoruba language, he said, “On Monday morning, in front of a mosque near a club, you, a pastor, came and started preaching. The preacher is not a believer. You are now preaching that people should fast on a Monday morning. For what reason? Are you not aware of the fuel scarcity and hunger in the country?
“People are hungry, yet you are preaching that they should repent and fast on a Monday morning. Don’t you know you are disturbing the people? You asked them to bring sand because you wanted to perform magic and told them to contribute money in my neighbourhood.
“I’m also a pastor. One messenger should not disturb another messenger. I pray every time I wake up in the morning. The preacher is not a believer, but I am a believer.”
